Back in the middle ages, Roquecor was known
by a different name ‘Rupe Cornu’ (Horned Rock).
It derived its name from the big rock that jutted out over
the caves and the valley below.
Just a few minutes walk to the caves, which
lie directly below ‘La Forge’ will reveal
the strewn remains of the horned rock, now known locally as
‘Roc de Nobis’.
As the legend goes, the horn of the rock
suddenly broke off and crushed to death a wedding party taking
place below, burying the newly weds and many of their guests.
Hence the name ‘Roc de Nobis’ (Rock of the newly
weds).
